Advancement is an important part of Scouts as it gives recognition for the hard work they do. It is up to Scouts to earn their own advancement.
At Troop 406, we do follow THE TRAIL TO FIRST CLASS model to help scouts on their journey to FIRST CLASS. Once the Scout has requirements signed off in their scout book, they need to turn show their Scout handbook to Mr. Sandt so we can keep a record of their advancements. This also lets us have a good picture of Scouts who are close to their Scoutmaster Conferences and Boards of Reviews. Please be aware that new Rank requirements come effective January 1st. Scouts working to a particular rank will need to be aware of, and have the new requirements signed off at that time.
www.meritbadge.com is a website that explains the rank advancements and the requirements. It is also a great place to print off worksheets for merit badges the Scout is interested in working on. The troop has a library of merit badge books if your son wants to check that first. You can also buy merit badge books at the Scout Shop.

Typically we have Scoutmaster Conferences the 3rd Monday of each month. We have Board of Reviews on the last Monday of each month. Board of Reviews are conducted by parents and not the Scout Leaders of Troop 406. Please be prepared to help out with Boards of Review . You will be paired with 2 other parents, and will have a list of potential questions to ask the scout. If all parents help with the process, we can get them done in no time!
